My daughter will be 19 in a few days. She needs to establish credit before she needs to have credit if you know what I mean.
Does anyone have suggestions on any credit card companies that a give someone her age a card?
I am trying to get her on the right track with credit.
Thanks,
Carol

Carol...When i was 18 and had my first real job, my first credit card was from JCPenney. I was perfect because it wasn't a Visa or Mastercard so I could go nuts with and buy anything I wanted. I used it to purchase clothes for work and a few gifts now and then. Now, that was 25 years ago, but I think it may be easier for your daughter to get a credit card from a smaller retailer. Once she establishes a little credit, it will be easier to get more credit.
I'm surprised she may be having a hard time getting a credit card. Now a days you hear about young adults being recruited by the credit card companies. I think a smaller card would be perfect and she can begin her credit life on the right track. Usually, if you have a job for a certain amount of time, you can get a store credit card. I know once I got mine, I was able to purchase a used car with the good track record I had with that one card.
I hope this helps...

Of course, the best advice I can give to anyone about credit cards is, If it charges a yearly charge, Don't do it!

Diamond Shamrock/Valero will issue credit to beginners. So will Sears, but the interest Sears charges should be illegal.

Thank you all for your help. I have told her what advice was given, now it is time for HER to get moving on this. I also told her to go to the bank that we do business with.

My youngest got a credit card thru Capitol One. My oldest has tried a few times to get a credit card and gets turned down everytime. My youngest has co-signed loans for my oldest. I don't understand how the youngest was able and the oldest couldn't but I guess that the credit company choice. My oldest has struggled to get credit to buy things but is getting there. I agree with Cc if any company wants a yearly fee stay away. I won't apply at those you have to put money into either, borrowing against you own money is a rip off. Credit cards are costly but unless your a rich person you almost have to have credit. Around here you have to have a major credit card to rent movies.
