Full Version: My Mom
cookinstash
The nursing home called Monday, about 10:00 in the morning and said Mom had been having a little trouble breathing, but they have her stabilized and not to make the drive, everything is fine for now. They had a call in to her Dr. and if he wanted tests or treatment they would call me and we would meet at the hospital. If I didn't hear from them by 2:00, then that meant the Dr. was going to visit her and not put her through and ambulance ride. They did not call, so I called them and they said she is breathing fine, but incoherent and fidgeting and moving wildly. They were fixing to give her an anti-hallucinogen and dinner and not to worry, they will call if necessary. I really trust these people, so I am very comfortable with their decisions.
I called 2 more times to check on her and they said she was still fidgeting and acting strange.
I get out of the shower and into my jammies last night and the phone rings. She has spiked a fever and her O/2 stats are dangerously low, 42, and they want to get her back up to 100. The nurse feels it is best to get her to the hospital NOW!! I get there an hour and a half later and they have her on drips, O/2 is up to 98, but she is making really weird movements, grabbing at things that are not there.
They said the anti-hallucinogens are not working. Can't give her anymore. This goes on for hours and she finally goes to sleep this morning.
They think she has a major bladder infection/U.T.I. and they are hoping pneumonia does not set in. She was starting to have really heavy chest congestion when I left this morning.
If I miss work, they have to close for the day. The Dr. told me to go and get some rest and go to work and if it gets bad, he will call me to leave.
So if you have a spare prayer or hug, toss it this way please. I know she has led a full, long life, but I'm just not ready to let go yet!! But it's not my call. emo-emo-CROSS.gif

Thank you for all the prayers, hugs and kind words!

She is in critical condition in the hospital with numerous problems. The Dr. says she will probably pull through and return to the nursing home, but it is going to be a while down the road. She thinks it is 1948 and that she is a student at Baylor again!! All the conversations are the same ones she had with friends back in '48. She tries to sign my Grandfathers name on meal tickets thinking she is in the student center for lunch. Yesterday, she was telling me that she and Shirley went to a party and she had to eat toothpaste before going home...she had a sip of a rum and Coke!! Cant' go home reeking of alcohol now can we? I laughed my butt off the last couple of days!! Then she will pop back to 2008 and ask for a McDonald's cheeseburger. It's a mess, but she is getting better. She has no ability to chew and swallow, but they say the meds are causing that and it will clear up. She weighs 86 pounds, how long can she go without food is what I want to know?
I'm worn out from all the travel everyday, but 'ya gotta do what 'ya gotta do. I'll be back eventually and raise a little!! emo-emo-th_neener.gif emo-emo-th_neener.gif emo-emo-th_neener.gif

We will continue to remember her in prayer. Have they put in a feeding tube yet? If not ask them why they haven't. God bless you all.

Oddly enough, I have an idea of what you are going through. When my favorite grandmother was still around. She had dementia from all the medication that she had to take for her Parkinson's. We had bout's of the memory from time to time before we had lost her to lack of food and water. This was a few years back.

I am still praying for you and your mom. Please be careful with all of that travel. I don't want to see you get hurt.

She is back at the nursing home and neither here not there most of the time. But for her age, it's to be expected I guess!
