This past Christmas found us with absolutely no money for gifts, bills past due, and my husband was having trouble affording the gas to get to work. Our problem was that we were living 45 minutes from where my husband works and you all know what gas prices are like. We were spending approximately $500 a month in gas alone. But it takes money to move and we didn't have ANY.
One day on my husband's lunch break he drove by this house for rent. It's a block from the bay, covered with big old oak trees, a fenced in corner lot, and a dog house. He knew this was the kind of house we were looking for but was reluctant to show me because he knew we could not afford to move. But about a week later while we were running errands we drove by it. I got out of the car and looked in all the windows. It was everything I ever wanted right down to the hardwood floors and big kitchen. There was even a small bedroom already painted blue (my son is 2 yrs. old)
I figured I was just torturing myself but I called the number on the sign and left my message. I then prayed that if it was God's will that we live in this house, for Him to make it happen.
Two days later I got a call from the owner. We didn't get right down to business and talked for about 30 minutes before we even discussed price. She told me that she wanted first, last, and security deposit and the rent was $200 more than we wanted to pay. I told her I would have to speak to my husband and that I would call her back. I was crushed. I didn't call her back.
That Monday she called me and I told her that we just couldn't afford it but that the house was lovely and I wished her luck in renting it. She explained that she really wanted us to have the house-she grew up in it and she knew we would take care of it and love it like she did. At the end of the conversation, she dropped $200 off the rent, said we could slowly pay the security deposit over the course of a year, and that she would even leave the utilities in her name until we could afford to switch them into ours.
We moved in the day after Christmas. This house has changed everything for us. My husband gets to spend more time with us because we're so close to his work. My son and I walk to the park nearly every day. I feel so blessed. I know that God is the one that found the house for us and it is to Him that we give thanks.
NEVER underestimate the power of prayer.
