Q. I placed my résumé on Monster.com and got an e-mail back from a company. It was vague. The company offered me the position of Account Manager Funds. Does this sound legitimate to you?

A. Well, I can see how this would interest you. Imagine, a salary ranging up to $30,000 per year, plus commissions. And the job takes practically no time! Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?

It is, I'm afraid. I pulled some of the colorful phrases from the e-mail. When I searched the Internet for them, I got some hits. They weren't the same e-mails that you received. But they all appeared to be scams.

It's hard to say exactly what they want. They may require you to put up some "goodwill" money. Or, maybe you're laundering criminal money. Whatever, you can be sure that you will never see the promised salaries. They will certainly try to defraud you. You could even end up arrested.

Monster.com experienced a huge theft of data recently. Personal information on 1.3 million jobseekers was stolen. The thieves posed as employers to download the data. They didn't get anything confidential, according to Monster. But they got names and addresses.

This personal information is being used to lure people into shady transactions. Your e-mail, and the solicitations I saw online, apparently originated overseas. Just take a look at the English:

"Please don't be suspicious of email you reply to. It is used for hiring process and prevents the Company emails from spam messages."

Such fractured English is the hallmark of Eastern European criminals. Don't reply to this e-mail. You'd be asking for trouble, I promise.

In checking my Message Board, I found a similar letter. It's better written, but it appears to be the same scam.

I noticed that After I signed up for monster jobs.(had to do job sources on line for my benefits) I have been getting Many letters asking me to help detour money for a deceased person.... in the sum of outrageous amounts.....

I have been turning them in for SPAM..... it is Crazy and scary that Many People will become taken by these Scamers I have heard of Many of the Horror that have taken place with these Scams.... Like CC Said Please watch out for them and do not become taken by them.
